Hi I really enjoyed the entry about the school. Do the children learn in both English and their native language? I noticed that they are very fluent in English. Did you try sliding down that snow hill with them? Seems like they would have loved to provide us with a video of you participating in the local winter sport! Stay warm and enjoy every moment.

Love your question about the bilingual education. I am not sure that I can answer it all the way. While I was visiting the school, I saw labels in the Yup'ik language. I did ask a youngster to say hello in Yup'ik but she was shy. She told me hello in Spanish, though. I will reserve a ride down the bank during my next visit to Savoonga. -Deanna Wheeler
